MÉCÉNAT AU CHÂTEAU DE LAUBADE

Roland Cognet
Totem

In front of thePyrenees, Roland Cognet’s Totem watches over the vineyard. Made of a flatten pine by the storm of 1999, this sculpture reminds both the story of the Gascony region and the elaboration of the Laubade bas armagnacs. The totem is organized in three parts. The raw base of the pine trunk marks the work time of soils and vineyard. The middle part of the trunk is rounded shaped, like a barrels dedicated to the storage of this work’s fruits. Finally the top part of the pine is standing up to the sky, following the sinuous shape of a cooper piece. This composition aims at representing the distillation process, which consists in turning the grapes into steam and then into pure alcohol. Roland Cognet is used to create from the supports that nature provides him with, in order to magnify it.
